10/31: Starr King Halloween Parade
Happy Halloween 2019!
Happy Halloween 2019!
Our 5th grade “Team Piece Builders” had a fun time today working with BAR Architects, KPFF Engineers and Cahill Contractors at the Leap Sandcastle Classic competition! Thanks to Leap and our sponsors for promoting art education and making public art accessible to Bay Area school children. It was great to see all 3 of our awesome cohort teachers out on the beach along with science teacher extraordinaire Mr. Hsu!
The theme this year was “Let’s Play” and our structure, designed by the 5th graders, featured a bit of everything for kid playtime—centered around a slide that morphed into a piano keyboard that wrapped around some pets, toy pieces, books and sports gear. Well done, team!
Having fun representing our neighborhood at the Potrero Hill Festival
Starr King celebrated our Latinx Heritage with an educational presentation, arts and crafts, great music, and delicious food!

Congratulations to our Starr King Dragon Boat racing team for their 3rd place finish at the 24th Annual Dragon Boat Festival! Huge thanks to Mr. Hsu, Ms. Chen and Mr. Kenny who were our secret weapons that made us faster than ever. Contact Peter Liang on ParentSquare if you’re interested in joining next year’s team.

Thanks to all for coming out for a PTA meeting and staying for entertainment afterwards! The 5th graders also appreciate your support for their upcoming science trip!
Hi SKES community,
We installed a paver path to the North Patio area for improved access and egress for the SKES staff and others. Thank you family volunteers for another successful work day!!
The blog is always accepting pictures of your pets wearing Starr King swag
Our Starr King sport teams helped inaugurate the reopened Potrero Hill Rec Center sports fields today with Supervisor Shamann Walton. Play ball!
If you build it they will come! Today was the unveiling of the new fields at the Potrero Hill Rec Center. More beautiful open space for young people and community to utilize. Together with Rec and Park we will keep improving our parks and providing spaces for everyone to enjoy! pic.twitter.com/Z5ydtPniUq

Thanks to everyone who came out for our first PTA intro meeting on the 29th, and we hope you had fun at the Julia Robinson Math Festival! A very big thank you to SF Math Circles for hosting the event, and to the many parent volunteers who helped out. Click for more information about Julia Robinson Math Festivals and Starr King Math Circles.
Thank you, Superintendent Matthews, for starting off our school year with a bang!
Starr King is honored to have hosted SF Mayor London Breed, SFUSD Superintendent Vincent Matthews, SF’s State Assembly Representative David Chiu, Deputy Superintendent Enikia Ford Morthel, and SFUSD School Board Commissioner Jenny Lam, among others, to kick off our first day of school for 2019-2020. Here’s the official SFUSD post about it! The SF Examiner also posted some pictures from the event.
SFUSD is hard at work repairing the asphalt on the playground. Thank you, SFUSD! Never fear, the basketball court and the kickball field are scheduled to be reopened by the end of this week and just in time for school to start.
Our traditional kickoff event for the beginning of the school year! We saw Starr King friends both old and new on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
Thanks to all the volunteers who staffed our tent (we love the shade), and a big thank you to Bridge Housing and the YMCA for hosting us for another great event.
The Carnival was an awesome turn out! Thank you to all that came out to enjoy and volunteer.
Congratulations, Starr King Class of 2019! We will miss you!
